Artica is an outdoor multi-media art festival, parade and workshop series developed to provide the people of the St. Louis metropolitan area with the opportunity to come together as a community through creative self-expression.
The event takes place along the Mississippi riverfront in order to revitalize an area that has been polluted, neglected and abandoned for far too long. Although our audience is primarily all of the citizens of the St. Louis metropolitan area, the whole world is invited to attend and expected to participate as co-creators during the festival.
Artica’s development is as fluid as the river it celebrates, and its scope depends greatly upon the involvement of the community.
Artica will happen on the St. Louis riverfront between the Arch and the water, north of the Poplar Street Bridge, and south of, and upon the riverfront main stage.
Artica will take place on October 11 & 12 (Saturday and Sunday), 2008.

Artica is a participatory art festival.
We want people to create art and create responsibly.
We are new guests in this neighborhood and would like to be allowed to come back again.
Numerous city departments and officials
have allowed us to create this very edgy festival on a very public site
because of our past history of responsibility.
Please behave accordingly and encourage other participants to follow your example.PARKING
Parking is available on the levee, and an artists/performers parking zone will be established
but you can park where ever is convenient for you. The parking authority may or may not
charge you about $4 to park on the levee. Sometimes they’re there, sometimes they’re not.
It’s out of our control and you’re on you own. People often park on Leonor K. Sullivan Boulevard.
Sometimes they give you tickets or tow your car, sometimes they don’t. Again it’s out of our control.
There is also the arch parking garage on Washington Avenue.CAMPING
Camping will be available for artists on the levee, with an encampment zone
next to the artist parking zone. Be aware that the levee is slanted and cobblestone.DRINKING ALCOHOL
The official policy is that you must be 21 and drinking acohol in public is illegal
and Artica supports the law of the land.
Also, remember that Artica also supports self-reliance, so be prepared to
take care of your own needs. Don’t do anything stupid and be responsible.FOOD AND COOKING
Artica will not be vending or providing any food or beverages.
There is some available from private vendors on the levee.
You are welcome to bring your own and welcome to share.
This festival stresses self-reliance and leave no trace.
Bring what you want and need and take it and all your trash
with you when you leave. This is part of our responsibility to
the city and port authority for letting us use this public venue.
All cooking must be in a raised grill or a
designated cooking fire that has an offical fire permit.
There will be no cooking/camp/ceremonial fires without a permit.
There are several designated burn barrels and cooking fire locations
with official permits for these purposes. Ask a docent where they are.DOCENTS
